Scottsdale Golf Guide
This guide sorts the noise into a plan — which desert courses are worth the green fee, when to book, and how to run a golf weekend from a private pool home base minutes from Old Town.
Your Scottsdale home base
Play Scottsdale by day, recover at the pool by afternoon, and keep the group together at night in an owner-hosted home prepared with professional standards.

Scottsdale packs 200-plus courses inside a 45-minute drive, played under some 330 days of sunshine a year. Desert golf is its own game — firm fairways, forced carries over Sonoran scrub, and greens framed by boulders and saguaro — and the winter conditioning is as good as it gets.
From PGA TOUR venues to walkable value tracks, most are a 10–30 minute drive from the house.
Prime golf runs January through April, when the rest of the country is frozen — so book early.
Come back to a pool, putting green, and full kitchen between rounds instead of a hotel room.
Where to play · Bucket-list
Play-where-the-pros-play golf and postcard desert scenery. Peak green fees, worth it once a trip. Drive times are approximate from the house.
Home of the WM Phoenix Open and the famous 16th-hole Coliseum. Play the Stadium just after tournament week and the grandstands may still be up. Forecaddie required Nov–April.
High-desert target golf threading between granite boulders below Pinnacle Peak — including the namesake rock mid-fairway on the par-5 3rd. About as scenic as it gets.
On Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation land with zero homes on either course — just desert and mountains. The Coore & Crenshaw Saguaro is walkable and a longtime top-ranked Arizona public course.
Where to play · Everyday & close
Great conditioning without the bucket-list price tag — ideal for a warm-up round, a second 18, or a group with mixed handicaps.
Championship pedigree with everyday playability — the Fazio-designed Raptor has hosted the NCAA Championships. Best all-around pick for a mixed-skill group, and Phil’s Grill is a solid post-round stop.
Two Coore & Crenshaw layouts right off the 101, closest of the big names to the house. Wider fairways make it the easiest intro to desert golf — with TopGolf and PopStroke next door.
Classic, walkable parkland-style golf with lakes and Camelback Mountain views — more forgiving and more affordable than the desert flagships. An easy call close to home.
Plan your rounds
The best courses and the best weather land in the same window, so the calendar does most of the work. Book premium courses 60–90 days out for January–April weekends; TPC in February goes first. Chase twilight rates — after about 1 PM they drop 30–50% and winter rounds still finish before dark.
Summer flips the math: play dawn or after 3 PM and elite courses can fall 50–70%. Rates, tee-time policies, and conditions move around, so treat any pricing as a range and confirm directly with each course.
Sample Trip Flow
A simple framework for a group that wants great golf without turning the whole weekend into logistics.
Arrive, stock the kitchen, and shake off the travel with a twilight nine at Talking Stick or McCormick Ranch. Dinner in Old Town.
Bucket-list morning at TPC Scottsdale or Troon North, then pool time back at the house and a low-key group dinner in.
Second signature round at We-Ko-Pa or Grayhawk. Afternoon on the putting green and giant chess, night out in Old Town.
Optional early replay round or a slow brunch and pool recovery before Sky Harbor, about 15–20 minutes away.
Where to Stay
El Charro Sol puts your group in the middle of it all — most of the courses here are a 10 to 30-minute drive, Old Town is 7 to 10 minutes out, and Sky Harbor is close for early tee times and easy departures.
You get a whole home with a full kitchen, a private pool, heat available by request, a putting green, giant chess, and shuffleboard — the between-rounds hours that make a golf trip actually feel like a trip.
