Spring Training in Scottsdale

Scottsdale is one of the best places in America to experience baseball. Whether you're following your favorite team, visiting every MLB stadium, or planning your first Spring Training trip, Scottsdale puts you close to the action while offering far more than baseball once the game ends.

Every February and March, fifteen MLB teams come to the Valley for Cactus League Spring Training — six weeks of games, practices, and player access in an intimate setting that's impossible to replicate during the regular season. Tickets are affordable, sightlines are excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Games run from late February through late March. Most Cactus League stadiums are within a short drive of each other, which means serious fans can realistically see two or three games in a single day.

The best Spring Training experiences happen when you pair a game or two with everything else Scottsdale offers: Old Town dining, pool time, golf, and warm evenings that feel like a reward after a cold winter back home.

February and March afternoons in Scottsdale regularly hit the mid-to-upper 70s. Dress for sunshine, not the calendar — sunscreen and shaded seats are not optional.

Your Two Home Stadiums

Two of the finest Spring Training venues in baseball are within 10 minutes of El Charro Sol. Most guests will spend the majority of their baseball time at one or both of these.

Salt River Fields at Talking Stick 1.9 mi · 5 min
7555 N Pima Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85258  ·  Arizona Diamondbacks + Colorado Rockies

A 140-acre Spring Training complex shared by the Diamondbacks and Rockies — and it's practically in your backyard. Salt River Fields sits less than two miles from El Charro Sol, a straight shot up Pima Road with no highway required. Outstanding sightlines from every seat, a wide open concourse you can walk freely during the game, and a large lawn area that's ideal for groups. Mountain views of Camelback and the McDowells frame the outfield on clear days.

Shared by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, you'll often find two different home teams on consecutive days. Tickets sell out on weekends — book ahead. Ample on-site parking. Rideshare drop-off at the Center Field Gate.

Best Seats

Sections 12–21 behind home plate for premium views. The lawn in right-center is the best group option — bring a blanket and spread out. Lower baseline sections for a more traditional seat.

Scottsdale Stadium aerial — Spring Training home of the San Francisco Giants

Scottsdale Stadium sits in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale and has been the Spring Training home of the San Francisco Giants since 1984.

Scottsdale Stadium 4.5 mi · 10 min
7408 E Osborn Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251  ·  San Francisco Giants

One of the most beloved Spring Training parks in the country, located in the heart of Old Town Scottsdale. The intimate 12,000-seat capacity means every seat feels close to the field. The Giants have called it home since 1984 — the facility is well-maintained and the atmosphere during a sold-out game is genuinely special.

The real advantage here is location. Scottsdale Stadium is five minutes on foot from Old Town's restaurants, bars, and the Entertainment District. Plan dinner at Cien Agaves or drinks on a rooftop after the final out. Street parking and nearby garages are available, but arrive early — this one fills up fast.

Best Seats

Lower baseline sections fill first. The Charro Pavilion in left field is a popular group area. For a relaxed afternoon, shaded upper sections on the first base side are worth looking for when available.

MLB Regular Season

Chase Field & the Arizona Diamondbacks

When Spring Training ends, the action moves downtown. Chase Field is the Diamondbacks' home in the heart of Phoenix — 15 miles from El Charro Sol, about 20–25 minutes — and one of the most distinctive ballparks in baseball thanks to its retractable roof and air conditioning.

For stadium chasers, Chase Field is a must-visit. The roof, the pool suite in right-center, and the downtown Phoenix setting make it genuinely unlike any other park on the circuit.

Getting There

15 miles · 20–25 minutes

Chase Field is located at 401 E Jefferson St in downtown Phoenix. Rideshare directly to the stadium is the easiest move for evening games. Light rail is also a solid option from multiple Valley points. Avoid driving downtown on weekend nights — parking fills fast.

What to Know Before You Go

The Stadium

Chase Field opened in 1998 and seats just under 49,000. The retractable roof and air conditioning make it the rare ballpark where a July afternoon game is genuinely comfortable — the roof is typically closed for summer day games.

Tickets

Generally available and affordable except for marquee opponents — Dodgers, Cubs, Giants — and weekend evening games. MLB.com and the official D-backs site are the safest sources. Resale is widely available and often below face value on weekday games.

Best Seats

Lower level baselines and the club level are the most comfortable for a first visit. The upper deck delivers some of the best value in MLB — solid sightlines at a significant drop in price from the lower bowl.

Ballpark Highlights

Beyond the roof, Chase Field has a pool suite in right-center field, solid concessions, and one of the better downtown ballpark settings in the National League. The surrounding downtown Phoenix area is worth exploring before or after a game.

Stadium Chasers

Working through your MLB stadium list? Chase Field is a must — the retractable roof and in-game atmosphere make it genuinely distinctive. El Charro Sol puts you close to both Spring Training and Chase Field, making it a natural home base for a full Arizona baseball trip.

A private home gives a baseball group something hotels can't: a shared space to decompress between games, a kitchen for postgame food and drinks, and a backyard to recap the day. El Charro Sol is a 3-bedroom Scottsdale home with a private pool, putting green, outdoor dining, and enough personality to feel like a destination on its own.

The property sleeps up to six adults and is built for groups. 1.9 miles from Salt River Fields. 4.5 miles from Scottsdale Stadium. 15 miles from Chase Field.
